The Nigerian Army has constructed a model three-bedroom Bungalow as official Residence for the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the 12 Brigade (BDE) at Chari Maigumeri Barracks Lokoja.

The edifice which is seated on 800 square meters of land, was commissioned at the barracks by the 12 BDE Commander, Brig. -Gen. Haruna Dasuki, on Wednesday in Lokoja.

In his brief remarks, the Commander, said the RSM house was constructed and furnished by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. -Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, under the Nigerian Army Special Project, Army Headquarters (AHQ), Abuja.

Dasuki appreciated the COAS through the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division for the gesture, and expressed his gratitude to the COAS on behalf of the 12 Brigade.

The commander stressed that the initiative by the COAS was borne out of his passion to restore dignity and respect to the office of the RSM in the Nigerian Army.

He added that the house was also a form of welfare to encourage other ranks cadre to be committed to the service of the nation through deep loyalty.

Dasuki stressed that the gesture would motivate young soldiers to aspire to become RSM in the future thereby embracing the core values of the Nigerian Army to form and shape their characters.

The commander highlighted several responsibilities and enormous tasks attached to the office of the RSM, stressing the need to give them befitting accommodation that their status deserved.

“One of the cardinal principles of the vision of the COAS is to have a well motivated troops through the provision of welfare and a relaxing atmosphere with their families.

“We are going to strive to make sure that the edifice is well maintained so that all the subsequent RSMs would enjoy it, and it will stand the test of time,” Dasuki said.

Dasuki implored the RSM to see the gesture as a motivating factor to put in more effort in order to justify the commitment of resources by the COAS to make his work easier.

The commander commended the Project Supervisor, Maj. Daniel Awolaru, and his team for making the edifice a reality within the time frame.

The commander enjoined the beneficiary to take good care of the facility and ensure proper maintenance for posterity sake.

In his vote of thanks, the RSM, MWO Hassan Haladu, appreciated the COAS, the GOC and the Commander for the good gesture towards him and his family.

Haladu promised to maintain and take good care of the facility as his personal house.
