The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA)
is Nigeria government agency dedicated to space technology, it’s root was important and is crucial in receiving and processing data, including valuable information via it’s many ground station over the years, NASRDA underwent significant development and transformation.
This advancement allowed NASRDA to focus research, technological advancements and remote sensing and space technology applications. NASRDA core objectives are centred around capacity development and strengthening in space technology and remote sensing contributing significantly to developing advance applications on these area by continuing pushing the boundaries of information and research.
Today NASRDA has significantly influenced Nigeria involvement and advancement in space exploration and technology.
An overview of NASRDA accomplishment since it’s establishment in promoting sustainable development through its research in remote sensing and space science is one of our significant milestones because it’s successful design, manufacture, and launch of Nigeria first observation (EO) satelite, Big me Sat _1.
This remarkable feat was accomplished by it’s team of skilled engineers in Nigeria who built and assembled the satellite sub systems. This satelite has remained in orbit and providing data downlink.
Nigeria successful mission marked it’s entry as a space technology and earth intelligence institute. After the success of Nigeria Sat 1, we continue to advance and successfully developed nano satelites and these satelites were a testament to NASRDA capacity to design, manufacture, and launch small test cubesats into orbit further highlighting Nigeria position in the global space community. Furthermore.
Nigeria commitment to advancing satelites technology is evident in developing various camera payloads and software. These endeavors is aimed at enhancing valuable data acquisition and environment monitoring, urban planning and diaster management. Another noticeable achievements was the modulation and upgrade of our data receiving station.
By improving our capabilities, the station can receive a broad spectrum of satelites
data, including information from renowned satelite mission like landsat and SPOT program. These upgrade signified our dedication to expanding our remote sensing capabilities and staying at the forefront of satelite data reception.
Moreover, we collaborate with other space agencies and institutions, engaging in payloads integration projects and contributing our expertise to missions with multiple satelites components. These collaboration enhance our presence in the international space community while furthering advancements in space technology.
With the new thinking of Dr Halilu Ahmed Shaba as it’s director general, NASRDA has been able to involve the nation private sector in it’s developmental efforts and these has really enhance the impacts of space technology on the economy of the nation. Nasrda is today not an agency that is formerly perceived as a drain on the nation budget as it is today contributing greatly to the nation economy.
