A frontline Nasarawa West senatorial aspirant of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, Barr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji says attacks on delegates and supporters were being carried out by the Police and the Nigeria Army in Keffi local government area of the State to intimidate and stop him from his quest to represent the good people of Nasarawa West Senatorial District of the State.
The Director-General of Magaji Campaign Organisation (MCO), Alhaji Yusuf Loko, who raised alarm over what he called the consistently attacks on supporters and delegates of Barr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji in Keffi, the senatorial headquarters of the zone.
Yusuf Loko disclosed this on Friday after the hotels where supporters and delegates was camped and raid by the Area Command Police Division in Keffi.
He stated this while briefing journalists on the controversy that trailed the arrest of delegates waiting for comm commencement of the All Progressives Congress, APC, electoral committee saddle with responsibility of conducting the primary.
MCO is reaching out media organizations and civil society to call the police to order and not to allow the police to be use to achieve selfish gains.
Recall that the legal luminary and Senatorial aspirant, Barr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji has indicated his intention to run for Senate seat of the zone in 2023 on the platform of the APac.
It would also be recall that May 28th, the party plan to hold a senatorial primary election but was disrupted on the basis of illegality, proxy by voting and use doctored delegates list by the officials and committee saddle to conduct the primary.
The exercise in Keffi was, however, marred by violence with miscreants and thugs loyal to Arc. Shehu Tukur, attacking loyalists of Barr. Magaji.
Others were also reportedly manhandled, phones and other devices confiscated and some were arrested and detained by the police conniving with their opponent..
Yusuf Loko said Magaji’s Campaign Office was attacked by the hoodlums supervised by the police on the order from the above.
The director-general stated that the police have taken over Keffi, most especially their campaign office and hotels where genuine delegates are camp and had arrested over 100 delegates with aim to demoralized him and stop Magaji from running the office the seat.
The MCO boss said the attacks were part of the unsuccessful attempts to scuttle the actual legitimate process by people who decided to “play against the rule” of the party and the country’s constitution.
“We call the attention of the nation to the appointment of known deadly thugs and cultists into state and local government offices all in the bid to intimidate and stop Barr. Magaji.”
While expressing worry at the resurgence of attacks in the Keffi, the director-general said the growing culture of political violence, cultism and banditry was condemnable.
He said the Military are not left out the attacks as they’re currently in the Minki’s suite hotels with other security agents.
He noted that locally vigilantes officers who were on the ground to protect the delegates from harm where also arrested with aim to implicate them with sophisticated weapons to back-up their evil plans. He said.
