Kwara State government has assured it’s readiness to partner with relevant agencies to put an end to the cases of child abuse and human trafficking in the state.

Wife of the Kwara State governor , Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq stated this while speaking at the 2023 World Day against trafficking in persons, organized by the Joint Task Force on Human Trafficking under the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons(NAPTIP) Kwara State command, with the theme: Human Trafficking: A Modern Day Slavery with Grave Effect on the Society”.held at Stalls Obasanjo Hall in Ilorin.

Ambassador AbdulRazaq who was represented by Deputy Director Ajike People Support Centre, Ganiyu Olarewaju Opeloyeru, commended the agency for securing the needed support of all stakeholders for improved outcomes and ensure success of it’s mandate.

She expressed delight over the efforts of the State Taskforce on Trafficking in Persons to engage stakeholders , adding that the forum will go a long way in creating necessary enlightenment on the ills of child abuse in the society.

Ambassador AbdulRazq appealed to all stakeholders to join hand in the fight against human trafficking and child abuse to ensure it success.

In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the taskforce who also doubles as The Attorney General and Commisssioner for justice in Kwara State, Barrister Suleiman Ibrahim commend the State government for the inauguration of the taskforce to fight the menace of human trafficking and child abuse.

Barrister Suleiman noted that the state government will not relent in it’s efforts of constantly engaging with relevant stakeholders to spread the messages of the dangers of child abuse in the society.

The Attorney General, who commanded the state taskforce also assured that the state government will support it’s activities at all levels to ensure the state is free from any form of child abuse under whatever guise.

In his lecture, Professor Bashiru Omipidan of the faculty of law, university of Ilorin, advised parents and other relevant stakeholders on the needs to be more enlightened on the importance of protecting the future of their children in order not to fall victim of traffickers.

Omipidan who noted that traffickers are people with all sorts of deceptive acts to attract their victims, also called on government not to relent in it’s efforts to further nip the act in the bud as it is inimical to the growth and development of the society.

In his remarks, the State NAPTIP Commandant, Mallam Mustapha Ajala who gave an overview of human trafficking in Kwara State, called on government, parents, traditional institutions, security agencies, religious leaders and other relevant stakeholders to be more vigilant, adding that the state taskforce is always ready to work with members of the public to stop the cases of child abuse.

Recall that the Kwara State Taskforce on Human Trafficking is a multi stakeholders taskforce inaugurated last year October by the Executive Governor of Kwara State Mallam Abdul Rahman Abdulrazaq under the chairmanship of the Kwara State Attorney General, Barrister Senior Suleiman and Alhaji Mustapha Saa’ad Co-chair and Naptip state commander as part of the government’s efforts to make Kwara human trafficking free.

The occasion featured goodwill messages from people and was well attended by relevant stakeholders and top government functionaries such as the Commissioner for Women Affairs Olaitan Bosede Buremoh, Commissioner for Social Development Afolashade Opeyemi Oluwakemi, security agencies, market men and women, religious bodies, traditional institutions and others.
