THE Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole has been inaugurated as President of Lokoja Club 1901, the oldest club in the Country.
Kolawole alongside 11 other contestants were elected to pilot affairs of the Club in the next two years and sworn -in accordingly.
The elected members of Management Council are, Right Hon. Mathew O. Kolawole, President; Comrade Danjuma Usman, Vice President; Lawrence A. Williams, General Secretary; Associate Professor Jeremiah Avok, Treasurer; Moses Grandball Moshwell, Financial Secretary; Zakari Alhassan Dubu, House Secretary.
Others are Nmodu Adoga Kabir, Social Secretary; Abu Sule, Public Relation officer; Chogudo S. Ahmed , Auditor; Ahmed Atayi, Bar Secretary; Hjiya Fatimah A bubakar, Lady House and Joe Onawu , Sport Secretary .
In his remarks, the new President of Lokoja Club 1901, Prince Kolawole expressed gratitude to God for making it possible to witness the great occasion, commended the immediate past President, Comrade Tom Abutu who ensured that the dream come true .
Kolawole also seized the opportunity on behalf of honourable members of Lokoja Club to congratulate the State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on his victory in the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the State.
He explained that Lokoja Club 1901 is the social and recreational legacy left by Sir Frederick Lord Lugard who was the first governor of Nigeria.
He noted that today the sporting facilities do not conform with modern standard obtainable in the various Clubs that sprang up after the establishment of Lokoja Club 1901.
Kolawole, therefore, solicited the support of the general public to achieve the entire proposal by the current executive to realize its tall ambition to reposition the Club to a greater height.
