The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Appeal Court judgement on the Kogi governorship election delivered on Saturday as a travesty of justice.
Kogi State Publicity Secretary of the party, Bode Ogunmola, in a statement issued in Lokoja on Saturday, said the judgment is unacceptable to the party.
“Gov. Yahaya Bello and the APC can run, but it cannot hide from the Supreme Court, where the blood of the innocent people killed in the Kogi Election and the irregularities that characterized the election would be pointed out.”
Ogunmola urged PDP supporters to remain calm and be hopeful. The PDP said the party will never give up until justice is delivered and Engr Musa Wada becomes the Governor of Kogi State, particularly that he was overwhelmingly voted for in the November governorship election.
Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has described the judgments of the Court of Appeal upholding his election for a second term in office as governor of Kogi State as an affirmation of his landmark victory on November 16, 2019.
The appellate Court delivered judgment saturday evening in the appeals filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP), the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively against the corresponding judgments of the Kogi State elections petitions tribunal which had last month dismissed their various election petition petitions against the governor and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement by Onogwu Muhammed, Chief Press Secretary, (CPS) to the governor, he said the 4 judgments by the court of appeal upholding his victory in the election and at the Tribunal were validations of the historic mandate given to him by Kogi people, adding that greater impetus has been given to his drive to do even more for the State and her people.
The governor lauded the 5-man panel which heard the matter for her uprightness while thanking the entire citizens of the state for their support and prayers since the filing of appeals by various individuals and parties.
The Governor noted that “The rule of law once again came to the defense of democracy by affirming the collective will of the people of Kogi State which was expressed in such decisive fashion on the 16th of November, 2019.”
Describing the quartet of judgments as outstandingly and astoundingly thorough, Bello noted that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.
While calling on all Kogi indigenes to join his administration in moving the state forward, Governor Bello reiterated his resolve to continue working for the unity of Kogi State by running an all-inclusive administration characterised by open-door policies, and visionary developmental milestones.
