A strong party chieftain from Nasarawa State, Hon Ahmed Tijani has disclosed reasons behind the frontline aspirant for the APC top job, Mallam Saliu Mustapha’s popularity.
He described him as the masses Chairman, Hon Tijani claims it would be a new dawn for the APC with the Turaki of Ilorin as National Chairman.
“We are solidly behind Mallam Saliu Mustapha in Nasarawa State, we believe in his capability and competence, as the 2023 general elections fast approach we do not need a national chairman that would be enmeshed in crisis.
A look at the majority of the aspirants would point to a class of Egos because of their past and some other obvious reasons. Saliu Mustapha by default is the people’s chairman which makes it easy for the young gentleman to start on a perfect foundation.
Saliu has no ego to flex with anyone and with a piece of clean luggage hovering around his personality, he simply is the best hand we have for the job.
Nigerians are looking up to our great party for succour, we must get it right and present the most competent. As a renowned philanthropist, Saliu’s goodwill would be good leverage for the party.
Saliu Mustapha’s soaring popularity is a direct reflection of his well-oiled vision of a great party entrenched in discipline and party supremacy. We need a national chairman that would ensure the party goes into the general elections in a united and indivisible house. That should be the core objective and goal for the party for now. We are 100% solidly behind him.”
Meanwhile for over a year the APC has been shopping for an acceptable national leadership that would run the affairs of the party.
Since the inauguration of Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee in June 2020, the journey has been quite intriguing and controversial as so many attempts have been made in the past to conduct a national convention.
With all modalities decisively put in place, the party would finally hold the ALMIGHTY national congress in December.
With express approval from President Buhari, the Progressive Governors Forum and every single stakeholder, party members are upbeat already about the coming changes to hit the party.
The race no doubt is getting more engaging because of obvious reasons, if the congress was held a year ago the politicking and manoeuvrings won’t have been so intense as presently witnessed.
The reality is that the 2023 general elections are just about 15 months away which makes it more intricate. The elections are just too close that the next party chairman of the APC must hit the ground running. Do you know the popular adage, “No Time To Check Time”???? That is the reality on the ground.
So for the APC to make a great impact in the all-important 2023 general elections, its leadership must come out with the best of its hands.
As at the last count, no fewer than 10 party chieftains are jostling to contest for the chairmanship seat.
They are Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Senator Kashim Shettima, Senator George Akume, Mr Sunny Moniedafe, Senator Mohammed Musa, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, Mallam Isa Yuguda, former governors of Zamfara and Borno states, Abdulaziz Yari and Ali Modu Sherrif respectively.
