The appointment of Ambassador(Dr) Nimota Nihilola Akanbi,OON,as the pioneer Chairman of the National Secondary School Education Commission has been described as a round peg in a round hole and a reward for consistent competence and enduring professional excellence.
This position was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Spokesman of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union(IEDPU),Abubakar Imam,on behalf of the Union’s National President,Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi,while reacting to the appointment.
Alhaji Uthman said that the Union was not surprised with the appointment of Ambassador Akanbi considering her deep wealth of experience and exceptional career as an outstanding teacher and accomplished Principal of the famous Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin,from where she was appointed as the nation’s Envoy to Netherlands.
Alhaji Uthman said that the appointment is also very significant as it indicated that women who are well educated, competent and determined can go far in public service as he said that the appointment would encourage women to aim higher and pursue their aspirations to the best of their abilities.
The IEDPU President expressed the conviction that Ambassador Akanbi, who also served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi,would make effective use of the position towards the restoration of the lost glory of the nation’s post-primary educational system.
The statement also congratulated Ambassador Akanbi’s spouse and former Provost of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Dr. Sulyman Toyin Akanbi,who he described as a distinguished son of Ilorin and the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Emirs and Obas,,Alhaji (Dr)Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, as well as the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,on the appointment of Ambassador Akanbi.
The Union wished Ambassador Akanbi a very fruitful tenure of office.
