The political group under the auspices of Atikulation 2019 Movement has pledged to mobilize 10 million votes across the northwest for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku.
The deputy coordinator, northwest, Isa Ibrahim in a press conference in Kaduna, the movement said they are throwing their unflinching support on distinguished elder state man, Professor Ango Abdullahi, who said the north would not vote for President Buhari in the 2019 polls.
Buhari’s administration has failed woefully in the three years they have been in power despite the so-called change mantra as well as overwhelming support of the people in the northwest geopolitical zone.
‘‘Looking at the 2018 national budget, a whooping sum of N13,3 billion was earmarked for the construction of 20 new roads and none is from northwest, while the 2015 demographic survey indicated the rise of out of school children from 10.5 in 2010 to 13.2 million, indicating that 69 per cent of the above figure is from the north.
The Atikulation Northwest Movement further said recent report from World Bank indicated that Nigeria is now the headquarter of poverty in the world with over 89 million of her population living under poverty line and recent report from NBS indicated poverty level in northwest to be 81 per cent.
Registering his displeasure, Ibrahim noted that throughout the over three years of the Buhari’s administration, there is no single project worth N1 billion initiated and completed by the administration anywhere in the seven states of the region.
“The dividends or reward we got from the millions of votes we gave is sadly a high rate of security, hunger, unemployment among our youth and a high degree of uncertainty in our daily affairs.”
The deputy coordinator also said numerous farmers have to keep off their farms to save their dear lives, adding that, cattle fattening is no longer realisable in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna and Kano.
He therefore submitted that, the epidemic has become a full-blown disaster and no hope is in sight.
“Recently, Governor Aminu Masari was quoted to have called on the federal government to come to the aid of Katsina State as far as security is concerned since the people no longer sleep with both eyes closed and nobody is safe.”
He then said that, having reviewed the present state of affairs, it is safe for them to conclude that the regions initial optimism for better governance, economic emancipation, better living condition and all, has been bitterly replaced with high level of uncertainty, fear and lack of direction.
“We hereby resolve to chart a new course for a better tomorrow for ourselves and our children and so have resolved to massively support and vote Wazirin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar (GCON) come February 16,2019.”
