Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has warned against ethnic, sectional and religious considerations in party affairs as party elected new state exco.
The warning is coming after the party adopted consensus as the method for electing its new leadership, the All Progressives Congress in Kogi state has constituted its Executive Committee by affirming the nominated persons to lead the party for the next four years.
The Congress which was held at the Kogi Confluence stadium, Lokoja, on Saturday was attended by the Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Speaker, Kogi state House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Mathew Kolawole, Senators, Jibrin Isa Echocho, Smart Adeyemi, members of the House of Representatives and Kogi state Assembly, as well as members of the state Executive Council.
Also present were local government council Chairmen, APC local government and ward Chairmen, stakeholders, delegates, party faithfuls, INEC officials, Civil Society Organisations, and Observers.
The process started with the presentation of the nominated candidates as arranged for the various positions by the stakeholders by the Chairman of the Congress Committee from APC Secretariat, Abuja, Alhaji Suleman Kabir Danmusa.
The Congress unanimously affirmed the election of the acting Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, Secretary, Joshua Emmanuel Onoja and new comer Suleiman Usman as Publicity Secretary, three vice Chairmen for the Senatorial zones, Youth leader and Woman leader among the 36 positions needed to constitute the State Working committee of the party.
It was followed by a motion moved by the Speaker Kogi state House of Assembly, Mathew Kolawale, and seconded by Senator Jibrin Isa Echocho representing Kogi East, for adoption.
Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, leader of the party in the state and Special guest of honour to the Congress, while congratulating the new executive committee of the party, charged them to be disciplined, loyal and dedicated to the ideals of the party for resounding victories in all elections.
Governor Bello,the APC leader in the state, told the new state executive committee that ” leadership is in practical display in Kogi”, admonished them to guard against acts capable of causing disharmony in the party.
He stated that in other parties, confusion either than consensus has been their trademark, which has always placed them on chaotic trend,especially when it comes to elect or select leaders and flag bearers.
While promising to carry the party hierarchy along in the running of the state, the Governor urged them to brace up to win all elections throughout their tenure.
He warned against ethnic, sectional and religious considerations in party affairs,
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello thanked the Governor and leader of the party in the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his wisdom and vision with which the state has peacefully and progressively piloted.
He said described the APC as the most peaceful and democratic party that is fit to govern Nigeria, despite problems created across the country by the former ruling party, promising on behalf of other elected members of the Executive Committee of the party, that the party will continue to grow stronger.
Though the Congress was conducted peacefully without any rancour, it was observed the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja was absent throughout the preparation and finale of the activity and no reason or apology was proffered either by himself or on his behalf.
