Barely a week after the deputy governor of Kogi State, Elder Simon Achuba alleged that governor Yahaya Bello is after his life, the immediate past Senator representing kogi central senatorial district, Senator Ahmed Ogembe has also alleged that the governor is planing to frame him up over the killing of one Yusuf Adabenege an aide to the governor and Custodian of a Masgurade in Ebira Land.
In a swift reaction the Kogi State Police Commissioner, CP Hakeem Busari said investigation into the allegation against Senator Ogembe is still ongoing.
Ogembe a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) made the allegation in a press statement issued on Sunday which copy was made available to newsmen in Lokoja.
He called on the Inspector General of Police, IG Muhammed Adamu to expedite action aimed at unraveling the Mistry behind the killing stressing that this is one of the antics of the governor, who he said always believed that whoever is not supporting his administration or ambition should be punished or eliminated.
Adabenege, a mascurade custodian, was killed last year by some gunmen, however some arrested suspects later alleged that they were contracted to assasinate Adabenege by Ogembe who was then a serving senator.
He mentioned that he has since petitioned the Inspector General of Police, vowing to get to the root of the matter, stressing that he was worried that the police was foot dragging in the investigation.
He further alleged that the police Commissioner in Lokoja, CP Hakeem Busari was yet to send the case file to the force headquarters in Abuja as directed by the IG.
He called on the IG to enforce the order he gave to the kogi CP to furnish the force headquarters with all necessary information about the case so as to allow proper investigation into the murder of late Adabenege.
“I have petitioned the IG over the matter. The IG raised a team to Lokoja to retrieve the case file. But somebody somewhere has stopped the CP from carrying out the IG’s directive. I am calling on the IG to enforce this order.
“I believe that what was done before was not correct. I suspect compromise. That is why I want to get to the root of the matter. As I promised our people, I will not rest until the real Killers of late Yusuf Adabenege are brought to justice
“The CP said there was a directive from some other person. I don’t think there should be any other directive that should be higher than that of the IG. I am appealing to the IG to further direct the CP to comply with his earlier directive on the matter.
“The allegation was against me which is false. Myself and our people have rejected this. I will pursue the matter to a logical conclusion. We must not allow such a heinous crime to be Committed and be playing politics around it. I have decided to dig deep into the root of the matter.
“There are several innocent people who are in prison, some have been killed eroniously because of this kind of false allegation. That is why I am calling for proper investigation into the matter. But they are holding very tight to the case file in Lokoja.
While regretting that in the last three years so many prominent personalities in the area have been dastardly killed, he however said that the case of Adabenege must be properly investigated and the perpetuators brought to justice so as to hault such senseless killings in future.
He commented the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji, (Dr.) Ado Ibrahim for his untiring efforts aimed at ensuring peace in his domain and urged the royal father to sustain the tempo.
Senator Ogembe however challenged the president of the Ebira Peoples Association, (EPA), to stand up against injustice, by standing on the side of the people and truth, saying that he has a lot of responsibility to the people of Ebiraland.
” Challenging the EPA president further, he said, “where does your loyalty and allegiance lies. Is it the people or the government of the day. I expect you to have called me on this matter or meet you at the force headquarters, which you have not done. This is not good enough. You have to rise to the occasion because we are talking of human life here and not that of a goat.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach the Director General media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, for his response proved abortive, the chief press secretary to the Governor, Mr. Onogwu Muhammed, disclosed that “it is only the DG media that can respond to the matter due to the new structure in the office.
However, The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Busari, while reacting dismissed the allegation, saying that there was no iota of truth in it.
The CP who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), in kogi state, DSP William Aya said investigation into the allegation against senator Ogembe is still ongoing.
He maintained that their was no such directive from the Inspector General IG of Police, requesting for any case file, stressing that the issue of disobeying any order does not arise as there was no such order in the first instance.
“The allegation against the former senator, Ahmed Ogembe was being handled by the homicide department of the force. Investigation into the matter is still ongoing. Therefore, there couldn’t have been any directive requesting any case file as alleged by the former Senator.
“We therefore called on the public to disregard the allegation. It is only when investigations are concluded that further action will be taken on the matter. But for now, all I can tell you is that investigation is still on.
