The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Idah, Dr. Yahaya Baba Usman, has underscored the critical role of science, technology and innovation in driving sustainable economic growth and strengthening national security in Nigeria.

Usman, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Muhammed I. Yusufu, made the remarks during the 5th National Conference of the School of Technology held at the institution.

The conference, themed “Leveraging Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth and National Security,” brought together academics, researchers and industry experts to discuss ways of harnessing technology for national development.

Delivering the keynote address, Yusufu said sustained investment in science and technology remains essential for economic development, industrial expansion and tackling emerging security threats.

He stressed that polytechnics have a major role to play in producing skilled and innovative graduates capable of addressing the nation’s developmental challenges.

The deputy rector also called for stronger collaboration among academia, industry and government to ensure that scientific research and technological innovations are translated into practical solutions.

In his welcome address, the Dean of the School of Technology, Mr. S. E. Onalo, said the conference was designed to equip participants with the technological knowledge needed to keep pace with global advancements.

Onalo noted that the gathering provided a platform for participants to exchange ideas and explore innovative approaches to development and security.

Lead paper presenters, Dr. Mohammed Agbali and Engr. Dr. Abu Abdullahi, in separate presentations, highlighted the importance of science, technology and innovation in addressing contemporary challenges.

They proposed practical measures for tackling rising insecurity in parts of Nigeria and across the world, advocating technology-driven and innovative solutions to emerging threats.
