The Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship aspirant in Kogi State, Dr. Abu Sunday has said that he joined the race because of the system failures during the present administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

He also decried the poor state of Health Institutions, lack of adequate facilities and lack of training and retraining personnel in the country.

He arguied that without adequate infrastructures, bringing more equipments and training of human resources to handle these facilities Nigerians may not enjoy best of health service delivery like in western climes .

Dr. Abu disclosed this while speaking in a chat with newsmen shortly after delivering a paper on Health related issues to the students of Kogi State University at a programme organised by Advocacy Initiative for the governorshp aspirants across all political parties in the state.

He explained that there is urgent need to build more infrastructures, build more equipments and train and retrain of human resources to take care of the equipments so that there will reduced infant mortality, maternal mortality and death rates generally.

Dr. Abu noted that in western climes where the Health systems are very standard and working perfectly, the death rate is lower, stressing that when compare to what is happening in Nigeria which is on the high side over 110 to just 1.8 percent therefore there is need to standardize the health system .

The Governorship aspirant explained that he has joined governorship race ahead of the Gubernatorial election in November because of the system decay, adding that this has affected every sectors and nothing is working in Kogi State.

He pointed out that at inception of Kogi State in 1991,the State inherited Six General Hospitals in Idah, Dekina, Ankpa, Okene, Kabba and Lokoja , noting that the federal government took over that of Lokoja which is now a Federal Medical Centre while others are already dilapidating with no adequate equipments.

He also lamented that all Water Works were perfectly working in those day providing water for everyone to drink, stating that they are no longer working in Kogi State and there is urgent need to resuscitate these systems.

“I am into politics because of the system failures. Most of the Systems have dilapidated, nothing is working again .It is the pain of our system failure that is bring some of us out to join politice, since it is only through politics that the pain to ameliorated, the people can be rescued, to resuscitate and build those systems that have ceased working to work again. What happened to Agriculture which was mainstay of our economy ? “, he stressed.

He added that Kogi State is in dare need of rescue and there is need for capable hands to come out to salvage the state from maladministration now , stressing that nothing has changed in the State despite human and natural resources accrued to Kogi State .

During the interaction with the Elders Forum of the 14 wards l Dekina/ Okura at Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Kogi State, Chief John Odawn in Egume, the aspirant solicited for supports of the party elders , saying he has high pedigree to rule Kogi State, pleading that he will not disappoint them if given the mandate .

Also speaking at Ajiyolo Ogbaloto in Dekina Biradu districts to Party executives , Dr. Abu restated his commitment to run an all inclusive government, saying that he will be meeting the people at grassroots at regular interval to ask for their needs.
