Dino Melaye, a former senator, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against attempting to arrest the bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, for criticising the current administration.
The bishop has been under fire by some groups in the country for accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of crass nepotism.
The Tiv Youth Council Worldwide had accused the cleric of calling for an overthrow of the president and asked security agencies to investigate the cleric.
However, Dino Melaye has suggested that such an action against the religious leader would prompt a backlash from the people.
Melaye warned that if Kukah is arrested, the president will be shown that the government is not owned by him but by the people.
