In a significant move to strengthen grassroot security collaboration and community engagement, as part of his familiarisation tours of Police Formation and Divisions across the State, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, has today toured Koton-Karfe, Kogi Local Government Area. Paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, the Ohimege Igu of Koton-karfe as well as engaged with critical stakeholders in other to promote community policing approach in Kogi State.

The tour began with a courtesy visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, the Ohimege Igu of Koton-Karfe.

The CP was warmly received by representative of sister security agencies a gesture he described as a remarkable show of unity and synergy inspired by the leadership of the traditional institution.

In his address at the palace, the CP commended the traditional ruler for fostering inter-agency collaboration and encouraging peace and security in the community. Stressing that the level of coordination displayed during the visit reflects strong leadership by His Royal Majesty.

The CP further emphasized the importance of community oriented policing, noting that the traditional institution plays a vital role in ensuring local stability.

He revealed plans to initiate town hall meetings, which he described as “meet-the-people outings,” to enhance police community relationships, gather feedback, and align security strategies with the needs of local residents.

He also assured the monarch and the people of ongoing efforts to improve security through inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, and consistent community dialogue.

He appealed for continued support and synergy through grassroot support with information

Responding, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, extolled the CP’s humility, commitment to grassroots engagement, and proactive approach to policing.

He highlighted his own long standing commitment to community development and security, citing his previous roles in both the executive and legislative arms of government, and now the traditional institution.

The monarch reaffirmed his readiness to continue supporting security agencies for peace and progress in the region.

Following the palace visit, CP and his management team proceeded to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Koton-Karfe, where he met with stakeholders including traditional chiefs (ward heads), religious leaders, and community representatives.

During the interactive session, the CP addressed key issues affecting policing in the area, calling for: Improved civility toward members of the public, Strict adherence to discipline among officers, Intelligence gathering and sharing across stakeholders, Collective efforts to curb crimes such as land disputes and fish pond related violence.

He urged members of the community to continue collaborating with the Police and other security agencies and volunteer timely and credible information on any suspicious activities within their neighborhood.
