The Catholic Bishop of Ilorin Diocese, Most Reverend Paul Olawoore has urged the Federal Government not to remove fuel subsidy at this present time, in order not to increase suffering of the Nigerian masses.
Bishop Olawoore gave the advice at the Third Carol service of Christian Fellowship of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kwara State Council in Ilorin.
He said removing subsidy on petrol at this moment would aggravate the suffering of already improvished Nigerians who could not afford the basic necessity of life.
Represented by the Director, Social Communication, Catholic Diocese of Ilorin, Reverend Father Christopher Atoyebi, Bishop Olawoore also enjoined citizens to stop inflicting pains on one-another, through unnecessary inflating prices of goods and services.
Similarly, guest speaker at the Third Carol service, Pastor John Baiyeshea, enjoined journalists to continue to act as change agents needed to transform the society positively.
Represented by Pastor Robert Fawehinmi, Pastor Baiyeshea emphasized that Journalists as change agents could use their constitutional voice to eliminate injustice, corruption and insurgency in the country.
Pastor Baiyeshea called on Journalists to always speak the truth to the leaders, by letting them know that they were elected to serve the populace.
In a remark, Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi who was represented by Chairman, Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Professor Timothy Opoola stressed the need for Christians to follow steps of Jesus Christ as prince of peace, to enjoy a peaceful world.
Dignitaries at the Third Carol of Christian Fellowship of Kwara NUJ themed “Christ: Reason for the Season”, included Commissioner for Communication, Mrs Bosede Olaitan Buraimoh, Chairman, Kwara State NUJ, Comrade Ahmed Lateef among others.
Highlights of the Third Carol service of Kwara State Christian Fellowship of Nigeria Union of Journalists, included music presentation by Kwara NUJ Christian Fellowship Choir, City of Refuge Orphanage, Cherubim and Seraphim Church, CAC Moranugba, Unity Baptist Church, among others.
