The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) is utterly appalled by the persistent attacks on innocent civilians in Benue State, particularly by suspected armed herdsmen.
These brutal assaults have resulted in considerable loss of life, displacement of residents, and a profound sense of fear and insecurity in the affected communities.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms these odious acts of violence, which have targeted vulnerable populations, including women, children, and the elderly.
The frequency and ferocity of these attacks serve as a stark reminder of the pressing need for effective action to protect the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians.
The ANA calls upon the state and federal governments to take immediate and decisive action to address the underlying causes of these attacks.
We further urge the governments at all levels to prioritise the safety and security of the generality of Nigerian citizens, particularly in rural communities, and to work towards finding a lasting solution to this crisis.
The ANA stands in solidarity with the people of Benue and other states experiencing similar turn of events and demand that the government takes concrete steps to protect their lives and property. We shall continue to raise our voices against injustice and advocate for the rights and dignity of all Nigerians.
