Some suspected killers have indicted a former Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Ogemebe over the killing of one Yusuf Onivehu in Okene some months ago.
The Four suspects were paraded in Okene by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Busari.
They were apprehended in connection with the November 16, 2018 killing of Yusuf Onivehu in Okene, Kogi State.
Speaking with newsmen the four suspects namely Yusuf Abdulmumin, Aliyu Jafaru Abona, Yusuf Abdulkarim and Yusuf Tijani confessed that the immediate past senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District Senator Ahmed Ogembe contracted them to kill the deceased.
The four suspects were led by 32 year old Yusuf Abdulmumin who confessed to have anchored the entire operation including surveillance and the killing with the support of supported 26 years old Aliyu Jafaru Abona, Yusuf Abdulkarim – 29 and Yusuf Tijani – 25.
According to Abdulmumin, another suspect by name Abdullahi Momohjimoh now at large,
with whom he served jail term at Okene Maximum Prison but later escaped from prison was the main person contracted for the operation.
He said on that fateful day after tracing the deceased’s movement and were certain of his whereabouts, they waylaid and kidnapped him with the intent to kill.
The suspect then revealed that following the failure of their guns to achieve the gang’s desired effect as the gunshot couldn’t penetrate the deceased’s body, they then resorted to use of a grenade which they used in blowing off his head.
According to him, Momohjimoh informed them that the contract was a big one and was being financed by Senator Ogembe and warned them to keep the information within their circle not to be revealed to any other soul.
He also confessed that Momohjimoh’s gang members were responsible for the prison break and that after escape, his ‘benefactor’ retained his services at gunpoint, and forced him into committing several other heinous crimes including the murder of deceased Yusuf.
Another suspect, Aliyu Jafaru Abona, claimed he was a commercial motorcycle rider in Auchi but was contacted by the gang to ferry the explosives, guns and other equipments for the operation.
He said he didn’t know the content of the bag handed him at the time, while two brothers in the crime Yusuf Abdulkarim and Yusuf Tijani confessed they acted as surveillance agents in the operation, but denied knowledge of why they were asked to monitor the deceased’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Senator Ahmed Ogembe has urged the people of Kogi central and Kogi state to keep hope alive in the face of laughable exhibition of ignorance and uncivilized ways of doing things by Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
He was reacting to allegation linking him to assassination of Mr Yusuf Adabenege (Masquerade Costodian) by some miscreants that were paraded in Okene by the governor himself on Sunday.
The Senator who made the statement in Abuja said he is aware of the absurdity being pulled together by the governor to cause confusion and misinform the public Saying when an opportunist is at the helm of affairs he thinks every other person is a fool.
“An Ebira adage says- When a fool talks he thinks people listening are also fools.
“My word of advice to Yahaya Bello is to devote more time to governance by uplifting the welfare of the people and prompt payment of salaries/pension than engaging in cheap blackmail and frivolous propaganda”. Ogembe stated.
“Nigerians are aware that Governor Yahaya Bello is known to weaponize blackmail to get at his perceived political opponents, He once roped Senator Dino Melaye in a gun running and murder case but the truth came out eventually.
“The same was the fate of Mohamed Audu who was accused of armed robbery but the governor antics also failed. It is therefore not surprising that I am next on their list of blackmail game,” Ogembe said.
Ogembe who said Bello met Ebira land in peace as a governor he’s expected to leave in peace, but with the path he has decided to take, he may end up in shame.
He’s advised to leave Ebira land as he met it, if he can not improve on what he met. He added that he will not dignify the governor with further comments in the meantime.
Senator urged the people of the area to remain united in rejecting any act of divisiveness adding that truth will always prevail no matter how long it takes.
