The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the readiness of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to commence its 8th National Convention in Abuja this weekend.
Speaking at a world media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, Idris said all necessary arrangements had been finalized to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible exercise.
He explained that the convention’s theme, “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” underscores the party’s commitment to unity, continuity, and national development. According to him, it also highlights alignment between the party’s internal structure and the broader governance vision of the country.
Idris noted that the APC has demonstrated maturity and resilience in managing leadership transitions in an orderly manner, describing the forthcoming convention as another test of the party’s democratic strength and organisational discipline.
He added that the gathering would serve as a platform to showcase the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while deepening the Renewed Hope Agenda within the party’s framework.
The minister assured Nigerians and the international community that the convention would adhere to high democratic standards, emphasizing the APC’s commitment to unity, inclusion, and purposeful leadership.
According to him, more than 8,000 delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to attend the event, which will feature policy discussions, leadership elections, and the emergence of new party executives.
The convention is scheduled to take place at Eagle Square from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, with party leaders expressing confidence in a peaceful and successful outcome.
