A group known as Kogi Unity Forum has thrown its weight behind former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

In a statement made available to Newsmen in Abuja on Monday, jointly signed by the Forum’s National President, Emma John Uhiene, and National Secretary, Ocheja Ali Ogwu, the group described him as “the leader our party needs now”, adding that Bello’s candidacy represents “a perfect blend of youth, loyalty, and vision.”

The statement said: “We are at a crucial point in the life of our party where political stability, strategic leadership, and generational renewal are not just desirable but essential.

“The choice of our next party chairman, zoned to the North Central region, must reflect the aspirations of both the APC and the Nigerian people. That is why Alhaji Yahaya Bello stands out.”

Describing him as “a former two-term governor of commendable service,” the Forum praised Bello for being “a proven administrator, a bridge between generations, and a dedicated party loyalist who has served faithfully from the early days of the APC.

“His undiluted commitment to the ideals of the party, both in times of victory and trials, has earned him the respect of stakeholders across all geopolitical zones,” the group stated.

Speaking on his youthfulness and energy, the Forum added, “Alhaji Yahaya Bello is a symbol of the innovation needed to revitalize party structures. His leadership will inspire our youth wing and deepen grassroots engagement. Under his watch as governor, we witnessed utilitarian development, political inclusivity, and an unshakeable commitment to democracy and accountability.”

The Forum also referenced Bello’s role as a presidential aspirant during the last APC primary, noting that his ambition was always secondary to his loyalty to the party.

“GYB, as he is fondly called, has always put the party first — defending its policies, promoting unity, and working tirelessly to reconcile factions both at state and national levels,” the Forum said. “His ability to manage interests and build consensus is exactly what we need at this critical juncture.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the Kogi Unity Forum emphasized the importance of experience in party leadership. “We are at a crossroads,” the group noted. “We need a chairman who understands the intricacies of governance, who has walked the path, and who commands respect across party lines.”

“Alhaji Yahaya Bello is not just the right man for the job,” the Forum declared. “He is the leader our party needs now.”

Reaffirming their commitment to the APC’s future, the Forum concluded: “To move forward, we must choose experience, loyalty, youth, and vision. That is what Yahaya Bello represents — and that is why we endorse him fully.”
