The member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon Sani Egidi Abdulraheem, has expressed delight and total support for the establishment of five LNG and CNG plants in his constituency.
In a statement issued on Monday, which was made available to Journalists in Lokoja, the Reps member noted that the project is a game-changer, not only for the immediate community of Ajaokuta , but also for Kogi State and the country at large.
While emphasizing that the benefits of this project are numerous, he listed them to include: jobs creation for the teeming youth, both during the construction phase and when the plants become operational, saying this will help reduce unemployment and stimulate economic growth in the community .
“Secondly, the project will increase access to clean and affordable energy, which is essential for powering our homes, businesses, and industries. This will have a positive impact on our economy, as businesses will be able to operate more efficiently and effectively.
“Thirdly, the project will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s energy transition, as it aligns with the Federal Government’s plan to deepen gas usage and promote a cleaner-burning alternative to traditional fuels.
The lawmaker however said he was surprised that the authority of Ajaokuta Steel Company is feigning ignorance of all the steps and processes regarding the LNG project itself and the subsequent date fixed for its groundbreaking ceremony in Ajaokuta Federal Constituency which is 30 January 2025.
“As the representative of my people, I want to assure the authority handling the establishment of the projects in my Constituency that we are fully aware of the project and its benefits, and we are committed to supporting it to fruition.
“The projects will also have a positive impact on our environment, as it will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions. This is in line with global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
“In addition, the project will attract investments and stimulate economic growth in our community. It will also provide opportunities for local businesses to participate in the supply chain, thereby promoting local content development.
I urge the management of Ajaokuta Steel Company to stop playing politics with the project and instead focus on supporting it. Public interest should override personal or other mundane interest.The people of the community who owned the land where the Steel Company is sited are in full support of the proposed LNG project that is being located in their community. We owe it to our people to promote their welfare and well-being, and this project is a step in the right direction.
“I want to reiterate my support for the project and assure the company that we are committed to working with them to ensure its successful completion. I am confident that this project will bring numerous benefits to our community, and we look forward to its completion.
“This project receives our total blessing, Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, all arrangements towards the groundbreaking as planned should continue as our people have been fully mobilised for a seamless ceremony come 30th January 2025.
