The Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution, (CHRCR), has called on the Kogi State government to put the necessary machinery in place to curb the killings of citizens by the so called unknown gunmen in the State.
The Executive Director, CHRCR, Comrade Idris Miliki in a statement in Lokoja said the call became imperative in view of the frequency of the killings and kidnappings without any culprit being apprehended by security agencies.
According to him, there is the need for security agencies to step up their surveillance and the nook and cranny of the State to check the killings and kidnappings of innocent people who are daily being killed while in search of their daily means of livelihood.
He called for collaboration amongst local government authorities, presidents of organisations in all communities, traditional rulers and its institutions to take inventory of visitors to their various domains to know who’s doing what at a particular time as well as checked undue allocation and sales of land to visitors.
The ED equally called on Local Government Administrations to as a matter of urgency organize Town Hall meetings on security and form synergy among themselves.
“We call on the State government to review its security strategies in the face of current development in the state as violent extremism is gaining momentum”.
While security is the duty of every responsible citizen to provide timely and accurate information to the relevant security services in the state, CHRCR sends condolences to the family of those murdered as a result of the unfortunate development.
