The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has withdrawn 27 students from the institution over poor academic performance and failure to register for two consecutive semesters, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining strict academic standards.
The decision was taken at the University’s 166th Regular Senate Meeting held on July 29, 2026, following the consideration of a report submitted by the Results Verification Committee.
According to the Senate, 11 of the affected students were withdrawn for failing to meet the minimum academic requirements prescribed by the University’s regulations, while another 16 forfeited their studentship after failing to register for two consecutive semesters.
The affected students were drawn from several faculties, including Arts and Humanities, Education, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, and Medicine and Surgery.
Addressing members after the approval, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, said the decision underscored the University’s resolve to preserve academic excellence and institutional discipline.
He commended members of the Results Verification Committee for what he described as their diligence, objectivity and commitment to upholding the integrity of the University’s academic system.
Prof. Usman stressed that the University would not compromise its academic standards, noting that while management remains committed to providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning, students also have a responsibility to meet academic requirements and comply with the institution’s regulations.
He urged all continuing students to remain focused on their studies, make productive use of the opportunities available on campus and strive for excellence in both learning and character.
The University directed all affected students to surrender their identity cards and every other University property in their possession to the security unit before completing their exit from the institution.
The Senate’s action is seen as part of PAAU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen quality assurance, enforce academic discipline and ensure that only students who meet the institution’s standards progress in their academic programmes.
