The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, has said the state’s expansive landmass presents a major security challenge, but assured residents that the government is taking deliberate steps to strengthen safety across the state.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, which was monitored in Lokoja by our correspondent, Fanwo noted that Kogi’s geographical size exceeds that of the entire Southeast region combined, making surveillance and security operations particularly demanding.

Despite the challenge, he said the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo has continued to invest heavily in security infrastructure while reinforcing local security mechanisms to improve response to criminal activities.

According to him, the state has adopted a proactive security strategy by integrating the Kogi State Vigilante Service with local hunters to serve as the first line of defence before conventional security agencies intervene.

Fanwo explained that the collaboration has significantly enhanced intelligence gathering, rapid response, and community policing, contributing to improved security in many parts of the state.

“The landmass of Kogi State alone is bigger than the entire Southeast combined. That naturally makes securing every part of the state a difficult task, but we have accepted the responsibility. We are investing in security infrastructure and strengthening our local security architecture to ensure effective protection of lives and property,” he said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining investments in security and working closely with security agencies and local communities to maintain peace and stability across the state.
