A coalition of youth and women groups in Kogi West Senatorial District has thrown its weight behind Senator Sunday Steve Karimi’s bid for a second term in 2027, citing what it described as his “tangible, people-oriented” achievements across the district.

The endorsement was announced on Thursday at a constituency engagement organised by the Kogi Progressive Stakeholders’ Forum in Kabba, the senatorial headquarters.

The meeting, which assessed the senator’s first-term performance, also outlined strategies for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.

Convener of the forum, Otunba Yomi Johnson, alongside its Secretary, Alhaji Issa Ismaila, said the decision to back Karimi followed a thorough review of his performance in office, noting that the endorsement was unanimous.

They called on constituents to sustain their support for the senator’s programmes, stressing that leadership choices must be guided by “track record, capacity, and character.”

“Kogi West must now elect leaders based on competence, not sentiment—not by noise or external influence. Senator Karimi represents the kind of leadership our future requires,” Johnson said.

Women leaders at the event commended Karimi’s interventions in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and empowerment, describing them as impactful and widely felt across the seven local government areas. They also pledged to drive extensive grassroots mobilisation in support of his re-election.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, and signed by Johnson and Ismaila on behalf of the forum formally declared Karimi as “the preferred candidate of Kogi West youths and women for the 2027 Senate race,” adopting the slogan: “Karimi Walahi — Second Term for Consolidation.”

Senator Karimi currently represents Kogi West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.
