Chairman Senate Committee on Services, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has congratulated Olufemi Haruna on his elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in the Nigeria Police Force.
In a congratulatory message, Karimi described the promotion as “eminently deserved,” noting that it followed a rigorous and transparent process supervised by the Police Service Commission.
The lawmaker said he had closely followed Haruna’s career trajectory, particularly his early service with the Police Mobile Force Squadron 24, also known as the Presidential Escort, attached to the Presidential Villa since the beginning of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic in 1999.
He commended the officer’s discipline, dedication, and professionalism over the years.
Karimi further highlighted Haruna’s academic and professional accomplishments, especially his distinction at the Police Staff College Senior Officers’ Course, which earned him the prestigious psc(+) insignia.
According to the senator, Haruna’s previous roles as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Force Intelligence Bureau and Commissioner of Police in Oyo State reflect his extensive experience and preparedness for higher responsibilities.
He added that his current appointment as AIG in charge of the Special Protection Unit is a fitting culmination of a distinguished career.
The senator expressed pride in Haruna as a constituent from Ife-Olukutun in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, and prayed for his continued success and service to the nation.
Karimi also wished the newly promoted AIG divine guidance and protection as he assumes his new role.
