The Gbobe community in Bassa Local Government Area has declared Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as the best thing to happen to them, following his administration’s intervention in critical infrastructure projects.
This commendation was made by Mallam Ahmed Abubakar, Chairman of the Gbobe Community Development Association and Chairperson of the Gbobe Community Project Management Committee, during a courtesy visit to the General Manager of the Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency (KSCSDA), Chief Momoh Dauda.
Mallam Abubakar led a delegation to express their profound gratitude to Governor Ododo for providing funds for the construction of a school and a primary healthcare facility in their historic community. He noted that despite Gbobe’s significance—being home to the first church in Northern Nigeria established by Bishop Ajayi Crowther—it had suffered from years of neglect.
“Our school was in shambles before the agency’s intervention, but today, we have a brand-new school and a primary healthcare facility that will serve the entire Kpata Ward in Bassa LGA,” Abubakar stated. He further appealed for additional support in building more classrooms, providing potable water, and constructing staff quarters for healthcare workers.
Representing the elders of Gbobe, Alhaji Ahmed Jimba conveyed the goodwill message of their royal father, reaffirming the community’s continued support and prayers for Governor Ododo’s administration. Similarly, the women’s leader, Mrs. Mariam Bako, described the intervention as “wiping the tears of the community.”
In his response, Chief Momoh Dauda commended the Gbobe community for their unity, resilience, and dedication, which contributed to the successful execution of their projects. He assured them that their requests would be considered once funds were available and promised to relay their plea for the restoration of the community’s vandalized electricity to the governor.
Chief Dauda also urged the community to safeguard the newly provided infrastructure to ensure sustainability.
The projects were implemented under the Basic Services Infrastructure component of the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus Programme (NG-CARES), reinforcing the state government’s commitment to grassroots development.
Governor Ododo’s administration continues to make strides in improving rural communities, and Gbobe stands as a testament to the positive impact of these initiatives.
