The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has been highly praised for its level of preparedness ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
The commendation was given by Hon. Abdulrazak Suleiman Sarki, Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly who doubles as the Chairman of the House Committee on KOSIEC and Government House Administration.
During an oversight visit to KOSIEC in Lokoja, Hon. Abdulrazak applauded the Commission’s efforts, noting the excellent preparations, high level of trust, and teamwork evident among the staff.
He expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming elections, attributing it to the leadership of KOSIEC Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, and the strong collaboration among the Commission’s members.
Hon. Abdulrazak emphasised the importance of prioritising public interest, stressing that KOSIEC’s actions would play a crucial role in determining the election outcomes.
The lawmaker called for a strengthened relationship between the House Committee and KOSIEC, as well as increased budgetary allocations to further support the Commission’s work.
Earlier, Hon. Mamman Eri briefed the Committee on the Commission’s readiness for the elections, highlighting existing challenges such as inadequate office space, the need for operational vehicles and career staff as against the current frequent transfer of staff.
He also led the committee on an inspection of the available non-sensitive electoral materials, noting that additional supplies were still expected.
The Commission’s Administrative Secretary, Mrs Lucy Abdullahi, expressed gratitude for the Committee’s visit and commendation. She assured that KOSIEC is committed to delivering free, fair, and credible elections on 19 October 2024.
