The Director General of the All Progressive Congress, Campaign Council, Senator Smart Adeyemi has promised to run an issue based campaign devoid of personal attacks.
Adeyemi stated this at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja on Thursday at the inauguration of the APC campaign council for the November 16 Guber poll.
Adeyemi said the poll, will be interested but said the ruling party pray that the PDP are able to resolved their internal crises so as to enable them presented a candidate for the poll.
He said, “To our own understanding, PDP does not have a candidate yet. What they have was inconclusive primary. It was surprising that an abandoned exercise was concluded in a private resident a day latter.
“We strongly hope that they resolve their legal and other crises over the primary; and we hope, INEC and the National assembly will quickly ‘amend’ the electoral law for them to conduct another primary in order to be able to field a candidate for the poll.
“We are eager to meet them at the field. It will be a shame if the leading opposition party makes the election a no – contest for us.
“For us, we are ready and have many things to campaign about. No governor in the history of the state, aside late Prince Abubakar Audu has laid a strong foundation for a sound governance than Governor Yahaya Bello.
“Where we have challenges we shall admit. We shall also show that the governor has laid a solid foundation for the political and economic development of the state.
“The oppositions are entitled to their opinions, but their opinions is subjects to the fact and available evidence. No doubt, the state is better united than before, as every part of the state is represented in the affairs of the state.
“Over 160 electrification projects across the rural communities, upgrade of institutions, the State university is better than it was, aside portable water projects, road projects, health projects across the states amidst other notable projects.
“We shall present the Ejiba rice mill, the total subdue of insecurities in the state; the social amenities; robust health care programs; infrastructural foundations already put in motion by the governor. We shall also not forget to remind them about the rot we met on ground.
“I am certain that our party APC will win landslide. It will be difficult for the oppositions to pick 25 percent of the electorates; that is if they eventually have a candidate to stand in the election.”
In his opening address, the State Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Bello congratulated stakeholders for the way they conducted themselves during the primaries that produced Governor Yahaya Bello as candidate and urged them to maintain the peaceful disposition.
Bello said the committee was important owing to the preparedness of the party to maintain its leadership of the state and the country, stating that the intention of the party was to ensure an overwhelming victory for Kogi APC in November.
He said serving and former members of the national and state assemblies under the APC and are still loyal to the party, former and current Ministers of the Federal Republic from the state, the state youth leader, National and state Women Leaders among others form the committee’s membership.
Speaking, the running mate of the party’s candidate, Edward Onoja enjoined the party’s leadership to ensure only those that were available and ready to work formed part of the committee, noting that it was dangerous to allow any individual to personalise it.
He said membership should cut across all structures down to unit levels in order to allow for good spread and wholesome vote canvassing.
