The indiscretion and gross deficiencies of Ahmed Bola Tinubu have manifested greatly since he deluded himself as the next in line to inherit the untenable empire of the All Progressives Congress ( APC). He has emerged as the master of garbage and gibberish, often throwing caution to the wind and attacking personalities instead of enuancating programmes and policies.
He was at his puerile best in Uyo yesterday, where he not only wallowed in pitiable diatribe against Atiku, but discounted his age and experience by referring to the dustinguished Governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel as a boy, and His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as a person he ‘rescued’.
It amounts to political heresy and patent hypocrisy for Tinubu who often presents himself as a victim to claim to have rescued His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, a man who had attained national political limelight when Ahmed Bola Tinubu was operating area boys’ politics in Lagos.
Those who know put the age of Tinubu at close to 90 years, but his utterances, conduct and character often place him as an adolescent, who is struggling to assert his adulthood. It’s for this reason that I chuckle when a few people ask that Tinubu be respected.
My response often is, does the man respect himself? If as a former Senator, a former governor and a self-appointed national leader of a political party you call your host governor a boy who lived in your backyard, should such petulant verbiage be reciprocated by the language of perfumed elegance ?
It is apparent that Tinubu has lost grip of his campaign, and Atiku has become so much an overwhelming nightmare that when he mounts the rostrum the only thing that comes into his demented stream of thought is Atiku. Good enough, the difference between Tinubu and Atiku is becoming glaring by the day.
To be sure, while Atiku and well meaning Nigerians appealed to reason and appropriate quarters to ease the pain inflicted by currency change and fuel scarcity, Tinubu, who ordinarily should have the ears of President Muhammadu Buhari rather chose the low path of accusing the President of sabotaging his campaign. He probably saw the currency change as an affront on his bullion van politics. How indiscrete can a man be?
Tinubu has emerged as the President of the Complainants Council of Nigeria. Before he emerged as the flag bearer of his Party he engaged in an open show of shame against President Buhari, because he felt the President was not supporting his bid. Now that he has emerged as the Presidential Candidate of his Party he is still bellicose against the President.
There must be something in the apparent reluctance of the President to identify with Tinubu’s ambition. When he’s not abusing Obi, he’s throwing mud at Atiku. At this rate Atiku may consider making Tinubu the Chairman of the Public Complaints Commission, when by the grace of God Atiku emerges as President.
The totality of Tinubu’s campaign expedition is the revelation that he is unpresidential, uncouth, indiscrete, uncoordinated and unsuitable. The ticket given to him is a waste.
His gaffes at campaign grounds is a waste of the precious time of people who gather to hear what he would do for Nigeria, only to go home disappointed, after hearing him saying he made Atiku Senate President at a town hall with electricity that is different from balablue and blue bulaba.
By the grace of God Atiku is coasting to victory, because he has demonstrated to be an Omoluabi a cosmopolitan Nigerian, a detribalised patriot, a good manager of resources, a peaceful campaigner and a democrat, who is neither contemptuous nor offensive in his engagements.
Tinubu, by his multiple baggages of linguistic violence, controversial records and gross erosion of his political base has come through as unworthy and unmeritting of the exalted office of the President of Nigeria. He should be satisfied as the indisputable President of Area Boys.
