Kwara State University Malete expels 87 students for examination malpractices

Kwara State University Malete has expelled a total of 87 students for examination malpractices, drug-related offences and internet fraud.
The Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University , Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN,stated this while speaking at the 8th and 9th Convocation press briefing held at the University campus in Malete, Kwara state.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Akanbi noted that their expulsion followed investigation and the establishment of their guilt by the Students’ Disciplinary Committe.
“Kwara state University has zero tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct. All cases of indiscipline are investigated and the appropriate punitive measures are taken against students found guilty of such offence. This is to ensure that the few bad eggs among the students do not contaminate the decent ones. Between 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions, a total of eighty-seven (87) students were expelled from the University. The students were involved in examination malpractice, drug related offences, internet fraud, robbery among other antisocial behaviour” The VC said.
Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi noted that 6,620 students are to graduate from the University for the year 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic session.
According to the VC, among the students 98 will graduate with first class degree.
He said the Institution is among the Nigeria universities that did not cancel an academic session due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Akanbi explained that the University’s academic programmes currently enjoyed full accreditation status.
He explained that the University has successfully trained and certified 21,000 students in Enterprise creation , adding that 18,000 students had their businesses registered with the corporate Affairs Commission.
The Vice Chancellor urged the federal government to formulate a policy that will make it mandatory for students in tertiary Institutions to live on campus to reduce their exposure to anti-social vices.
He also urged federal government to creat the enabling environment to keep brain drain
He said the the University would also confer Honorary Degrees on seven distinguished Nigerians “The Nigerians we are conferring with our Honorary Degrees are the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Abiola Gambari, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, Dr Johnson Bamidele Adewumi, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Alhaji Kamoru Yusuf and Dr Babatunde Jolayemi Omotowa. This event is followed by the Convocation Luncheon at 2.30pm December 11,2021
He said some of the achievement of the University includes research and technological breakthrough, infrastructural development, technical, vocational and entrepreneurship studies, industrial harmony, Intra campus transportation, students discipline amongst others while some of the challenges include funding, Shao-Malete Road, encroachment on University land and security.
