The Executive Chairman of Economic and Financial crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 charged corps members to be good ambassadors and enlist as foot soldiers in the fight against corruption.
Bawa stated this during a sensitization lecture entitled “EFCC And The Role Of The Youths In Curbing Cybercrime” at the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to him, “the youths are critical stakeholders in the fight against corruption and other forms of economic and financial crimes”. He urged them to take ownership of the anti-graft crusade and channel their fertile minds productively to benefit the country.
The EFCC boss, whose lecture was delivered by Ayodele Babatunde, Head, Public Affairs of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Commission said, “the youth as future leaders of Nigeria should imbibe the culture of hard work, excellence, integrity and shun all forms of economic and financial crimes.
He admonished the corps members to be good example in character and conduct in their places of primary assignments and report any act that fails the simple test of integrity to the Commission.
“We are inviting you to lend a hand in helping us build a society where there is respect for law and order and where impunity is a thing of the past. We urge you, when you see something, to say something and don’t stop there, please do something. Do not be mere spectators”, he added.
The anti-graft czar used the occasion to admonish the corps members not to engage in internet fraud or any other form of corruption, which could jeopardise their future career.
“There is no shortcut to wealth and fame. Acts of criminality might deliver wealth in the short term but ultimately, they lead to misery”, the EFCC boss warned
While calling for attitudinal change, Bawa described as worrisome a situation where as much as 50 youths are arrested in a single raid by operatives of the Commission.
He said a corruption-free Nigeria was achievable if all stakeholders were ready to join the anti-graft fight and detest corruption in all its ramifications.
