The All Progressives Congress ward congress in Ijumu local government council in Kogi state was not free and fair as expected as the Chairman of the local government council Alhaji Taofiq Isa was alleged to have hijacked materials meant for the ward congress election.
The Ijumu local government council ward congress election was monitored by some party Stakeholders comprising of the State Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Omofaiye, member representing the Constituency, Hon. Kilani Olumo, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sunday Faleke, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women and Children Development, Princess Omotayo Adeleye Ishaya, APC Caretaker Chairman, Chief Samuel Abejide among others gathered at Iyara the Headquarters of the local government to elect new Ward officials through affirmation.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, the Environment Commissioner said the Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Taofiq Isa hijacked the forms for the Congress and failed to show up at the agreed venue for the Congress.
Chief Omofaiye described the conduct of the Chairman as an act of disloyalty and gross disrespect to the directive of the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello that all existing caretaker Executive at the Ward level to be returned as new Executive of the Party.
The member representing Ijumu Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Kilani Olumo on his part described the incident as unfortunate and an act of insubordination to the the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
It is very unfortunate, the meeting was scheduled by the Chairman to commence at 12 noon and he is no where to be found. I think it is uneducated and an act of insubordination for the Executive Governor of Kogi State to give you a directive and flaunt it.”
Shortly after, conclusion of the Ward Congress of the Stakeholders, another faction of the party led by the Chairman of the Local Government gathered at the Party Secretariat to conduct their affirmative election.
Speaking the Council Boss, Alhaji Taofiq Isa denied the the conduct of Parallel Ward Congress in the Local Government.
In Mopamuro LGA of Kogi State and Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo hailed the peaceful conduct of Ward Congress in the Local Government Area, saying it is an indication of good leadership in the State and at the Local Government levels.
Fanwo stated this in Mopa while fielding questions from reporters shortly after the conduct of the Congress, assuring party faithful of fairness at all times.
“Let me thank the Leader of the party in the State, Governor Yahaya Bello for producing quality leadership and also ensuring cohesion and discipline in the party.
“The strict adherence to the constitution of the party as well as guidelines laid down by the party shows why the party has remained unbeatable in the state.
“In Mopamuro, it was like a democratic carnival as party faithful went about the election of those who will pilot the affairs of the party, peacefully without any acrimony or violence. It is a testament to the democratic credentials of our leader and Governor.
“I also wish to commend the State Party Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello and his executive members for the smooth and peaceful process. With the success recorded today, our dear party is ready to record resounding success in the 2023 polls”.
He called on the newly elected Exco members to be fair in all their dealings, saying the success of the party will significantly depend on their capacity and readiness to move the party forward.
“We must move our party forward and give no chance to the PDP in 2023. Mopamuro and indeed Kogi State will remain a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress”, he said, urging members to rally round the newly elected leaders of the party at all levels.
Fanwo said Mopamuro APC will remain one indivisible family that will continue to win elections by retaining the support of the masses.
