The Kogi Central Media Practitioners Association, (KOCEMPA) has Commended the Federal High Court, Abuja division for granting bail to the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who is standing trial over alleged money laundering.
In a statement by the President and Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Ibrahim-Isa Amoka and Comrade Ibrahim Obansa, respectively, the group noted that the judiciary still remain the hope of the common man.
The group noted that the governor as a humble and responsible citizen of Nigeria has always been law abiding and will not do anything that will jeopardize his trial as attested to by his councels
KOCEMPA is optimistic that, the current travail of the former Governor is just a phase which will come to pass, expressing confidence in the judiciary to do justice to the case before them.
According to the group, Former Governor Bello remain the hero of modern democracy and good governance in Kogi, given his administration’s achievements in Infrastructure, human capital development, security of lives and property of citizens, uniting the people regardless of tribe and religion, youth involvement in key leadership positions among others.
They called on the former Governor not be discouraged in doing good and working for a better Nigeria as envisioned by its founding fathers, where no one is oppressed as contained in the nation’s national Anthem.
KOCEMPA, an umbrella body for practicing journalists from Kogi Central, said it will continue to support and collaborate with former Governor Yahaya to ensure a better Kogi state and indeed Nigeria.
The group also commended the former governor for his vision, which led to the emergency of the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who is consolidating on the achievements of the immediate past Administration of former Governor Bello.
“God has guided you to give Kogi people a very good product in Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. He is doing very well in consolidating on your achievements and opening new grounds.
“Indeed you are the true hero of modern democracy and good governance in Kogi state. You have laid a very solid foundation for the all round development of the state.
“In solidarity, with the good people of the confluence state, we welcome you back, the white Lion.
The Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, on Friday, granted the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties in like sum.
This was after the former governor had pleaded not guilty to the 19-count charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He is facing an alleged money laundering trial to the tune of N80bn but pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
