Kogi State Governnent has vowed to sanction secondary school principals or head teachers of public primary schools who sabotage its free education policy.
Speaking during this week’s edition of ‘State of Kogi’, a Radio Kogi audience participatory programme, in Lokoja on Monday, the Commissioner of Education, Mr. Wemi Jones said two secondary school principals has been suspended over alleged misconduct.
Jones added that some school principals and head teachers are currently being investigated for alleged extortion and misconduct.
The Commissioner, however, did not reveal the identities of the suspended principals,. He said one is from Kogi Central, while the other is from Kogi West.
According to him, the thirty percent budgetary allocation to the education sector is still in place, saying Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is thinking of increasing it due to the importance attached to the sector.
He explained that while effort is being made to revamp primary school education in the State, the State Government is also making plans to pay for NECO fees in public schools.
The Commissioner, who reiterated the commitment of the present administration in resuscitating technical education in the state, commended the Governor for consolidating the achievements of the former Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Mr. Jones added that all programmes in the State owned tertiary unstitutions have been duly accredited, adding that government will continue to give priority to the education sector.
