THERE is serious tention between Bassa Komu and Egbura Biroko communities in Bassa local government council of Kogi State over fish ponds as Egbura Biroko cries out.
Speaking on Monday with kogiflame, the President of Mozum Cultural Development Association and also Ohimoze of Mozum kingdom, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammed said on the 14th of January, 2020, the Biroko community under Mozum district return to their ancestral home with the support of security personnel.
“From the date of their return, the Biroko community have been under intimidation, harassment and use of provocative words against them. As this was not enough, the Bassa Komu community resorted to physical attack.
“Last week Friday Biroko community came under heavy attack that forced even the security personnel stationed in the community to vacate the town.
“The attack was presided with forceful harvest of the Biroko community fishing ponds by the Bassa Komu community and hired Agatus Militias from Benue State who arrived with sophisticated weapons,” he alleged.
He noted that the Mozum Concerned Youth Advocacy (MCYA) called on the state government, the security agents and the relevant stakeholders to urgently come to their rescue.
“The Bassa Komu and hired Agatus Militias have besieged on the Egbura Biroko community in Bassa local government council and threaten even the security personnel with their sophisticated arms. As we speak there are build up intention and plans by the militias to further attack other Egbura communities.
“Before now, the Bassa Komu Militias layed ambush on the military vehicle on duty on Sunday 30th June 2019. A community with the capacity to confront military personnel cannot be trusted to be on the path of peace.
“We are calling on the governor to arrest the volatile situation and deploy armed Military personnel to Biroko community,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the spoke person of Kogi State Police Command, DSP William Ayah said the command have deployed fully armed security men to the community to avoid breakdown of law and order.
