The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU has vowed never to return to work until the demands placed before the federal government are attended to, despite the threats of No work No pay by the federal government.
The Chairman, SSANU, University of Ilorin Chapter, Oyedepo Olorunjuwon while speaking with our correspondent on Sunday in Ilorin said that the Federal government’s threat will be met with stiff resistance as all his members are resolute on staying away from work until their demands are met.
Oyedepo said that in the last week of the strike, one gate was opened for skeletal operation but in the coming week all gates will be under lock and key, paralysing the entire system as a way of pressing home the demands.
He urged all his members to ignore threats of No work No pay by the Federal government adding that the same was done to ASUU and that since the government understands only the language of strike, it will remain the only tool for pressing home demand.
He expressed optimism that the government would not want to destroy its own institutions as a result of demands by SSANU but stated that should the government ignore the association’s call the expectedly short strike could be prolonged.
The SSANU Chairman warned that facilities in the universities did not deteriorate during ASUU strike warning that allowing these facilities to remain idle, unmaintained could be very costly for the government to restore after the strike is over.
He called on parents of students in Nigerian Universities not panic but rather mount pressure on the government to speedily look into SSANU demands for an ascent from the government.
