Several protests have stop the Kogi State House of Assembly from screening the composition of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission by the state governor, Alhaji Yahya Bello.
Gov. Yahaya Bello had announced and forwarded eight names to the Kogi State House of Assembly for the confirmation of the members.
Several weeks after the announcement and submission of the names, the State Assembly has not mentioned or listed it their order paper.
The SIEC Members who had besieged the Assembly complex with expectations to be screened, were only asked to do documentation.
Aside the protest that the some SIEC Members are card carrying members of the Ruling APC, as claimed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, it was also discovered that some of the are former elected local government council chairmen of their respective councils.
Alao coalition of civil societies in the state have equally come hard on the composition for not being gender sensitive and has no inclusion of the civil societies.
The anxiety that greeted the announcement of the composition of the SIEC has however died down as the expectations for the state to hold council election later this year hangs in the balance.
For now, would the list of SIEC Members as submitted by the governor scale through the screening of the state Assembly amidst protest.
In a few days the protesters are billed to seek legal redress over the matter seeking a restraining order to stop the swearing in of the members.
As it is no date seem to be insight for Kogi Council polls except the observed bottle neck and grey areas are addressed.
