Security operatives Manning the Kabba/Lokoja express roads on Tuesday foiled two separate robbery and kidnapping attempts.
The first incident occurred along Kabba/ Lokoja express roads when 3 brand new Prado Jeep were recovered from suspects while another incident was reported in Gegu along Lokoja/Abuja expressway.
Eye witness account told our correspondent that the three Prado Jeep cars were being driven to Abuja from Lagos when they were waylaid immediately after Agbede Village very close to Obajàna cement factory belonging to business mongul,Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
The armed robbery suspects allegedly opened can fire on the vehicles but luckily,none of the occupants of the car got hurt.
It was gathered that travellers were held up for up to three hours before security operatives from nearby check point mobilised to the spot and dislodged them.
As at the time of filling this report, the bullet can riddled Prado Jeep’s were still along the highway.
The Kogi state government however be in a statement assured residents and travelers across the State that measures have been put in place to apprehend the kidnappers.
A statement from the state commissioner for information and communication, Kingsley Fanwo said that as a way of ensuring be security of lives and citizens government has step up patrol operations across the State.
“Government received the twin attacks in Gegu and Obajana areas and the Governor has directed the State Security Adviser to coordinate security operations not only to apprehend the pockets of criminals who perpetrated the acts; but to ensure that the flash points are well covered to guarantee safety of lives and property across the State.”
He said that Government of Kogi State will stop at nothing to retain its ratings as the second most committed to security, as the lives of our citizens and those of travelers within our territories are important to us. Government will not shirk the responsibility of protecting people within the Kogi State territory.
“As a Government, we are not prepared to negotiate with any criminal. We will dismantle their gathering storm with the Operation Total Freedom that has the capacity to ensure we retain the confidence of our people in the area of securing them and their property.
He said that the situation doesn’t call for the red button as it is firmly under control.
“The Governor will remain resolutely committed to his iron-cast security approach.” He noted.
