A Non Governmental Organisation, Sea Care Foundation, has distributed 50,000 exercise books and 15,000 pens to public and private Schools across five Local Government Area in Kogi State.
This effort was to complement the effort of Kogi State Government in uplifting basic education in the state.
Speaking at the official flag-off of distribution of exercise books and pens to schools, in Lokoja, the Chairman of the organising committee Al-Amin Ogejah hinted that the first phase of the distribution will covers both public and private schools in Ajaokuta, Adavi, Lokoja, Ogori-Magongo and Okene local government areas of the state while the second phase of the programme will take care of the eastern senatorial district of Kogi State.
While calling on well meaning individual and corporate organisations in the State to contribute to education, the organizing committee Chairman , said the foundation will in due course invest in agriculture, health, youth and women empowerment to better the lives of the people at the grassroots.
“This gesture is to complement the effort of Governor Yahaya Bello in education and it is a widow’s might to raise the hope of the less privilege in the society since our mission is to touch life positively in the State” he said.
Earlier, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Mr Wemi Jones called influential people in the state to invest in education in order to complement the State Government effort in taking the sector to the next level of development.
Jones, while lauding the founder of Sea Care Foundation for keying into Governor Yahaya Bello’s agenda at changing the phase of education to global standard maintained that when investments are made into education , the future of children are guaranteed.
“Investing into our children is an investment that has its reward beyond this world. I am praying that God Almighty will replenish the pocket from where the funds of the project was sourced.
“Governor Bello had shown sufficient passion and commitment in education. 20 per cent of the state income annually goes to education which was why a lot of development is happening in the sector since he came on board as the Executive Governor of the state” he said
He noted that Kogi State Government, has has led by example by fully enacting the education law , vowing that the law will catch up with any age school children found hawking during school hours.
He added that law also prohibits the operation of private schools in the state without registration with the ministry of education.
Goodwill messages were however delivered by the Kogi Commissioner for health Dr. Saka Haruna and the Ohi of Eganyi, who doubles as the Chairman Ajaokuta traditional council HRH Alhaji Musa Ochuja.
In his message of appreciation commended the Chairman of the foundation, Abdulrahim Sani for investing in education, noting that the choice of the sector was timely .
They both described education as one of the sector that can easily effect development of any nation.
They equally appealed to well meaning sons and daughters of the state to contribute their quota to the development of basic education.
