Prof. Wale Sulaiman, the Asiwaju Ewe of Ajase-Ipo Kingdom and President of RNZ Foundation was honored by the National Association of Nigerian Students as Patriotic Personality on Wednesday 16th of February 2022 at the NANS Education Summit held at College of Education Oro, Kwara State.
The Professor of Neuro and Spinal Surgery at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, who doubles as the Chairman and Keynote Speaker while speaking at the event urged the students to exhibit the Right Morals and Ethics in striving for academic excellence.
“As students, morals are very critical to your academic sojourn because you are going to face many dilemmas in life and you may want to be forced to take a shortcut, that quick deal may derail you for the rest of your life. Hence, you need to be willing to pay the profitable sacrifice for Excellence.”
He further posited that “ Education, Focus, Discipline, and Self Determination can take you far in life, and when you have the right credentials, the right mind, and work hard, when opportunities present itself you can capture it.”
In his Keynote address, at the NANS Education Summit, Prof. Sulaiman stressed that It is up to the students especially as youth to be the change they want to see in society. In his words;
“You can only tackle moral decadence by starting with yourself, holding each other accountable, and being proud of your culture and heritage. The government needs to do more in transforming the Nigeria Education sector. History should be made a compulsory subject for all students.”
Prof. Sulaiman referenced the historic significance of November 1949, Iva Valley Massacre which gave impetus to the struggle for Nigeria’s self-determination and the eventual Independence in 1960 from the British colonizers. He noted that Nigeria is at a significant crossroad where the Youth will be the driver of the desired change we all crave through a similar revolution. The destiny of Nigeria is at the hands of the massive population of Nigerian Youth.
The Professor commended the alertness of the NANS Executive Project Secretary, Comrade Adebayo Kayode Joshua, and the Kwara State College of Education Oro, under the leadership of the Provost, Prof. Mukaila Ayanda Aremu for hosting the auspicious education summit.
The education summit was graced by academicians, politicians, dignitaries. Notably are Dr. Bello Olamikan Kabir (YESBIT), Dr. Toba Oloyede, Hon. Felix Awodiji, Mr. Jide Oyinloye, Irepodun TIC Chairman, and students from several institutions in Nigeria.
