A Non Governmental Organisation, Patriot for Growth and Development Initiative (PGDI) has called on the Inspector General of Police, IG Mohammed Adamu to use his extended tenure to intensified fight against crime in the country.
The Executive Director of PGDI, Isaac Salami who stated this at a world press conference held in Lokoja said that the president would have considered the experience, international exposure and his capacity in stemming the tides of crimes and criminality in his short tenure that warrant the extension, appealing to Nigerians to give him maximum support to root out the remaining criminals.
“It is factual that the power to prolong the tenure rest squarely with the president and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari and the extension was done in good faith for the best interest of the Citizenry” he stated.
Salami who disclosed that IGP Mohammed Adamu’ s superlative performance was aided by his high quality education obtained both at home and abroad added to his experience at the Interpol headquarters ,helped him in the deployment of best practices in handing crisis as exemplified by the#EndSars protest with minimal recorded fatalities.
He added that the IGP is reputed for his landmark policy on the re-establishment of the Ministry of Policy Affairs , appointment of Minister of Police Affairs, the passage of Policy Reform and Police Trust Fund Bills by the National Assembly and their Assent by President Muhammadu Buhari, and the introduction and gradual implementation of Community Policing Strategy by IGP Adamu.
”It must be clearly stated that before the coming into office of IGP Adamu, the Nigerian Police was bedevilled with menace of internal security threats, lack of professionalism in the police force, low morale of officers and men of the force due to lack of modern policing infrastructure and training.
“We commend President Buhari for identifying the professionalism and leadership qualities and service experience of Mohammed Abubakar Adamu and his entrustment with the responsibility of supervising the police force as the IGP in 2019.
”We do not doubt that the IGP will use this period to further bring to bear, his leadership, professionalism, and hard work in repositioning the Nigeria Police for better service delivery thereby justifying the huge taxpayers’ money invested into the Nigerian Police.
“We call on the IGP to use this extended time in office to ensure that befitting compensations are giving to all the police officers and men who were victims of the #ENDSARS protest of October 2020″ he stated.
While urging the Inspector General of Police to equally increase the capacity building, professionalism, infrastructure development, and provision of necessary equipment for the Nigeria Police Force, the leadership of PGDI assured that the organisation will do everything possible to collaborate and complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force by partnering with the office of the IGP for effective service delivery.
