The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has called for calm over the recent attacks on communities in Oganenigu Ward of Dekina Local Government Area of the State by suspected herdsmen.
This was contained in a press statement issued by Onogwu Muhammed the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on Sunday
While describing the vile and satanic attack as a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of Oganenigu who have enjoyed relative peace and security, Bello states that his administration will continue to face out crisis entrepreneurs from the state and ensure that those involved shall be brought to book under the laws.
He describes the unexpected development as shocking while assuring that his administration shall commit every available resource to hunt down the criminal actors and make them pay stating that the Government will never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in its resolves to rid the state of criminals.
He however commiserates with the people in Oganenigu, particularly the family of the slain Oganenigu APC ward chairman, Hon James Adah and others affected by this ugly and unfortunate attack while urging the people to remain calm.
He however advised the people not to take laws into their hands as security agencies have been swiftly mobilised and deployed to the troubled areas to restore normalcy.
With early deployment of security operatives, normalcy has since returned to Oganenigu.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal House of Representative in the just concluded election has appealed to the presidency and Kogi state government to intervene in the incessant bloody clashes between Fulani herdsmen and the farmers in Ogane Nigu.
He regretted that the sad development has claimed many lives and destroyed valuable properties.
Okai’s appeal, followed a renewed attack of the people by the Fulani herdsmen who invaded the rural communities within Ogane Nigu area and killed many people at their sleep and destroyed many properties belonging to the communities.
Part of his statement made available to press men reads: ” I am Appealing to Kogi state government to intervene on the ongoing genocide in Ogane Nigu area where, countless numbers of people have been killed by night invaders who are sophisticatedly armed.
” The attackers are believed to be fulani herders who have repeatedly attack the communities around Ogane Nigu.
” The secret killing in Ogane Nigu is lingering because the needed attention is not given to the communities in Ogane Nigu ward of Dekina local government; the governor as a chief security of the state needs to wake to this challenge.
Okai who was apparently disturbed by the killings said that the situation in Ogane Nigu of Dekina Local government area was getting out of hand and needed urgent attention.
He added: “Our people are dying silently and they are helpless as it’s now, the time for a government to act is now .
” several settlements have been razed down, an undisclosed number of people are killed and people are refugees all over the place; this is not time for the Governor who is also the Chief Security of the state to sit down and watch but time to act.
” In the same vein, i am calling on security agencies to demonstrate capacity in intelligence gathering so as to forestall any further attacks against the communities around Ogane Nigu.
Recall that Fulani Hersmen have repeatedly continue to attack the communities around Ogane Nigu without any reason to justify their attack.
