Ahead of the 2023 political dispensations in Nigeria, the Lawmakers under the aegis of the forum of North Central States Legislators has unanimously demanded for the position of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria to the zone in 2023, stressing that they can no longer continue to play second fiddle in a country their compatriots have contributed to build.
This was disclosed in a communique issued and made available to newsmen on Tuesday after their meeting which was held at Bolton White Hotel, Area 11, Garki.
According to them, the forum is established principally to foster unity among the North Central States Legislators in pursuing their common agenda to uplift the social economic situation of the middle belters that has been relegated to the background.
They said the zone is blessed with abundant human resources that possess the cognate experience with the required acumen to govern the country, noting that if given a chance the story of Nigeria will change for the better.
The forum said the zone has had enough of party chairmen in the past hence those lobbying for such positions in their various political parties should change their mind and align with their position to seek the presidency. “It will be a thing of joy for all political parties in the country to have it’s presidential candidates from the north Central come 2023”
On security, the forum aligned with the position of the Nigeria Conference of State Legislature Speakers to call on the federal government to intensify more efforts in improving the security situations in the country by expediting actions on the establishment of state/community policing strategy to curb the menace of kidnapping, banditry, insurgency and other crimes in the country.
They also used the opportunity to call on the appropriate authority as a matter of urgency to reconstruct and rehabilitate all federal roads in the zone for the people and indeed the commuters plying the routes to experience new lease of life while traveling on those roads.
The meeting was attended by principal officers led by their Speakers from Benue, Niger, Kwara and Kogi State House of Assembly with apology from the Plateau State House of Assembly.
