Media Should Interrogate Melaye’s False Claims – Fanwo

The Kogi state government has called on the media to ignore the propaganda being churned out by Dino Melaye, former senator who represented Kogi West on affairs of the state under Governor Yahaya Bello.

Melaye in a post titled  ‘ What Yahaya Bello Is Paying Councilors In Kogi State Against What Is In The Records’ had accused the governor of shortchanging councillors in the state.

According to him the actual salary of councillors is N330,000 but the governors pays them N140,000 monthly.

He wrote “Salary for counsilor statutory N250,000 per month (sitting allowance N80,000 per month N10,000 per sitting 8 sitting in a month). N 330,000 per month”

“But the present Counsilors in Yahaya Bello government earned N140,000 per month,no sitting allowance. They can’t fight it since they were all appointed. We shall overcome. SDM”.

However responding, Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi state Commissioner for Information said Melaye’s claim is untrue as the governor is not responsible for paying salaries of councillors.

“The Media should not celebrate ignorance. We need to begin to interrogate the rationale behind certain comments by certain people.

“Governor Yahaya Bello is not in any way responsible for paying Local Government staff”.

” He is only responsible for paying State officials. Councillors are not part of the State Government. So how does the Governor determine what they earn?”.

  “The media needs to pose those questions to the author of the joke rather than propagate such” he said.
