Churches in Ilorin the Kwara state capital on Easter Sunday complied to the lockdown in state to guard against Coronavirus COVID-19 as Clerics described the Easter Sunday mood as unusual, strange.
Our correspondent who went around Ilorin metropolis observed that churches in Ilorin the Kwara state capital were under locked and key as Christians celebrate the Easter in their homes as security operatives were seen enforcing the lockdown directive even as violators who were seen at Maraba were asked to do community service by picking debris in the road.
Speaking on the lockdown the Secretary Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Kwara State Reverend Reubens Idowu Ibitoye said Christian are Celebrating the Easter in High spirit in their homes added that it would also be celebrated in a big way after the lockdown as he stressed the need for the government to do more in combating the Coronavirus and to also let the palliative go round to cushion the effect of the lockdown
Also speaking Prophet Peter Kolawole Williams of Christ Apostolic Church faith Chapel described the Easter Sunday lockdown as strange as the funfair was not there
He called on the government to do more in containing the Coronavirus pandemic in the state and for the palliatives to reach those in need
Also speaking Pastor David Oluropo of Envagelical Church Winners all ECWA Tanke Ilorin also described it as strange unusual for Christian to celebrate the resurrection of Christ in a quiet mood for the first time described it as a time to draw closer to God and serve him whole heartedly.
While also commended the government for the step taken so far in addressing the Coronavirus outbreak in the state he also stressed the need for the government to do more in a dressing it and to provide for the people to cushion the effect of the lockdown just as Prophet Femi Dare said said it is a time to go back to God
Meanwhile, Kwara State Government had on Thursday announced a total lockdown on the state in a renewed effort to contain the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19), exactly 48 hours after it took a similar step in Offa local government.
Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Technical Committee on COVID-19, Kayode Alabi, told a news briefing in Ilorin, the state capital.
The government however said a total lockdown was necessary to flatten the curve of transmission
It would be recalled that the Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 confirmed two separate cases of COVID-19 in the state. One is the wife of the UITH patient, a UK returnee, who died last Thursday and the other is another UK returnee.
