The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command says it has has said it has in last one year seized 5,880.947 Killograms of illicit drugs in its operations across the state.
Commander of the agency, Mr Ambrose Umoru disclosed this at a press briefing organised to mark the 2020 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking in Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to Mr Umoru, the drugs which include Cannabis Sativa, Tramadol, Codeine syrup among others were seized in a coordinated operations carried out across the state.
The commandant explained that during the operations, 380 suspects were arrested, 304 males and 76 females, while a total of 138 persons that used drug were counselled and reintegrated with their respective families and recorded eight convictions and 18 cases pending in court.
He explained that some of the females arrested were in their provision stores and some others in their homes which they have turned into hide outs for sale of illicit drugs.
While commending the Kwara State Drug Control Committee for their efforts at sensitising youth against drugs abuse, he appealed for the State Government’s continued support of the campaign against drugs and illicit trafficking in the state.
The Commander also commended the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari for his efforts towards combatting the drug challenges.
