AHEAD of the November governorship election in Kogi State, leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kogi State, Alhaji Sulaiman Baba-Ali has met with the warring members of the party in Lokoja Local government area stressing the need for total reconciliation so as to achieve victory in the election.
Addressing members of the party, at his GRA residence on Saturday, Baba-Ali who expressed his resolve to ensure that the party wins the November 16 governorship election, pleaded with the aggrieved party members, urging them to jettison their anger for the sake of peace and interest of the party.
He stated that returning Governor Yahaya Bello to the Lugard House should be a collective effort of all members, promising to apply political solutions to resolve the issues so that peace can reign in the party within the Local government Area.
Baba-Ali stressed that no matter the disagreements, party members should be seen as one big family, adding that working against the party’s candidate by aggrieved members will send wrong signals to innocent members of the public that the party is in disarray.
The leader further charged party members to come out en-mass and canvass for votes, man all the polling units, adding that votes must be adequately guarded to avoid electoral robbery.
“We need to work for victory. If the internal rancour is allowed to fester to the point of setting members against one another, the party would be seen as unserious party who is not worthy of being followed. Whatever the issues, all parties involved should work together and settle all issues before the election in the overall interest of the party”, Baba-Ali said.
Speaking at the peace meeting, member representing Lokoja 1 constituency, Hon. Isah Umar, urged the various aggrieved and warring groups to sheath their swords.
The lawmaker stressed that political crisis is not strange to party politics but it must be resolve in the overall interest of the party and the benefits of all members.
While emphasising that the November 16 governorship election is crucial for the party’s victory, he enjoined the aggrieved leaders and members to close ranks and work towards the common goal of winning the election for the party.
The meeting was attended by the who is who is Lokoja local government chapter of the APC, including the House of Assembly member representing Lokoja 1, Hon. Isah Umar, former speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulrahman Dangan, former member of house of Assembly Hon. Sulaiman Babadoko,Leader of Late Buba Jibril political family, Hon. Mabo Kasim, leader of Team Best, Hon. Tijjani Shehu Ebaiya, former Administrator of Lokoja LGA, Hon. Lawal Shiru, Commissioner of Operation, Kogi State Hajj Commission, Ustaz Ashafa Abdallah, APC woman leader, Hajiya Marka Abbas, all ward chairmen and others.
The meeting which commenced at about 7pm lasted till 9:30 Saturday night and all the parties exchanged pleasantries at the end of the meeting.
Most of the leaders who expressed their views commended Baba-Ali for finding solution to the protracted crisis rocking the party in the local government expressed their willingness to work with the leadership of the party to ensure victory for the party.
Member representing Lokoja 1 constituency, Hon. Isah Umar, in his vote of thanks, urged the party members to abide by the decision of the leadership of the party and ensure that peace returns to Lokoja local government chapter of the APC.
“I commend you, our leader for this effort and other efforts you have been making to ensure unity in our party in local government areas where we have crisis,” he said.
