The wife of Kogi State Governor Hajia Amina Bello has charged parents to prioritize the training of their female children in order to make them useful to the society.
Hajia Bello gave the charge on Wednesday at Kuroko , Adavi local government area of Kogi State during the commissioning of modern Ohuogogo market and street light projects executed under Kogi State Special Intervention Project Development Plan, supported by Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency (KGCSDA).
According to her , time has come for house wives to respect and support their husbands in the training of their children especially the female child to enable them have the strength to face future challenges.
“It is obvious that the future of your old age depend on how best you train your children for better tomorrow. Gone are the days when some parents relegate their female children to hawking petty items denying them the opportunity to go to school.
“I am appealing to parents and guardians, fathers and mothers to support themselves in the training of your children through education and skill acquisitions” he appealed.
Speaking on the ancient Ohuogogo market , Mrs Bello who narrated how she and her grandmother sell petty items in the market years back, stated that she had been praying to God to give her the opportunity to turn the local community market to modern type.
She thank God and her husband who supported her to achieve her dream for the market and promise to do more for Kuroko community and other communities.
“It was in this market that I learnt how to give to those who don’t have. Whatever I become today started from this small market. Even in my university days I sell recharge cards, sell Belgium wears because I learnt the act of selling and buying in the market. In fact I am fulfilled today seeing this market in a modern form” She said.
In his speech the General Manager KGCSDA Alhaji Momoh Dauda described the project as a landmark achievement for Hajia Amina Bello, saying the market would serve Kuroko community and other adjourning communities in Adavi local government area.
“It is a thing of joy that this ancient Ohuogogo market has been resuscitated. I strongly urged the users of the market to take good care so that the facilities in the shops and the market can serve them for long period of time” he said.
He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his support that led to the completion of the project.
In his welcome address , the Chairman, Kuroko Community Development Association (KCDA) Alhaji Salami Mohammed Onipe who gave brief history of the market said that the market has been existing for over 150 years as a road side market that had survived extinction.
He added that in the early sixties the market operated both morning and evening which he said have changed to every morning some few years ago.
The Chairman commended governor Yahaya Bello for the numerous projects he had executed at Kuroko and praised Hajia Amina Bello for facilitating the projects to improve the welfare and well-being of her people.
The market has 24 open shops and 12 close shop to enhance selling and buying in the market.
