The Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Ododo has approved the constitution of a Flood Disaster Response Team in view of projections by regulatory agencies that states along Rivers Niger and Benue are at risk of flooding.
The Team, when inaugurated in due course, is expected to coordinate the State Government Flood Response Strategies and execute the State Action Plan on Flooding to mitigate the effects of flooding on communities along Rivers Niger and Benue. Kogi State being a Confluence of the two big Rivers had suffered devastating effects of flooding in the past.
The decision of the State Government to set up the Response Team is to avert losses and protect lives and property in the flood prone areas.
The Flood Disaster Response Team is chaired by the Deputy Governor of the State, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu while the State Auditor General, Commissioners of Health, Environment and Ecological Management Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Works, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning as well as Information and Communications are to serve as members.
Other members of the Team are the Commissioners for Education, Water Resources, Women Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, Agriculture as well as the State Security Adviser, Special Adviser to the Governor on State Emergency Management Agency and the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency.
The Team will be inaugurated soon by the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo.
